THE NATIONAL MEDICAL RESEARCH FOUNDATION is chartered to activate and
fund medical/scientific research to find a cure
for Polymyalgia Rheumatica (PMR) and Giant Cell
Arteritis (GCA).
NMRFoundation is
addressing a serious problem that has been
neglected for many years. Both PMR and GCA were
named in 1957; 135 million “fabulous fifties” and
retirees are vulnerable; 1 out of 143 will be
stricken; too many patients are misdiagnosed; no
research is being done. NMRFoundation represents
a “grass roots” effort dedicated to rectify this
long standing neglect.
The first priorities
set by the founders were:
- Establish an agreement with a
“high profile” research scientist

- Strategize a plan for financial
self sufficiency

program for marketing, promotion and

information about PMR/GCA to the largest possible audience
- Encourage talent enhancement of
teens and the development of entrepreneurial instincts
- Expose teens to the world of
philanthropy and to the joy of giving

Groups |
|
NMRFoundation Support Groups
are being established throughout the United States
with the help of the medical community. Support
Groups are designed as platforms for communications
among those inflicted with PMR/GCA. Support Groups
function as forums for the exchange of information
and ideas about PMR/GCA, symptoms, treatment and
general well being. Group leaders are encouraged to
maintain a positive, inspirational environment
promoting wellness!
It is recommended that a family
member or friend attend meetings with the patient,
as both diseases can cause amnesia, physical
impairment and deep psychological depression. |

NMRFoundation is organizing Awareness
Committees in the State of Arizona and
throughout the Nation. Awareness Committees
will work within their own community and
will: disseminate information about PMR/GCA;
promote and market the NMRFoundation web site;
design and implement an annual fund raising
